Like a wistful reminder of way-back-when, culottes have made a comeback, and they’ve taken retro fashion to a whole new level. I’m talking mid-calf lengths, extra volume, high-waisted trousers of varied texture. I think I’ve said this before but walking along the streets back in the seventies must have been like the center spread of a vogue magazine.
When these became a thing late last year, what was on the minds of onlookers was the best way to pull off the look. I kept mine really basic and straight to the point with a sleeveless A-cut top that sits perfectly on the trousers.
Another beautiful thing about this trend is the fact that the hem of the trousers rests just above your shoes, so you can flaunt those lovely pair of shoes you got, with every step.
Culottes have the practicality and comfort of trousers but the feminine look of a skirt. I could easily transform this into a Sunday ensemble by adding a brooch and an envelope purse.
Switch out the strappy sandals for court shoes, lose the brooch and swap the purse for a sturdy work-appropriate bag, and we’re weekday ready. What do you think?
